A Letter from Santa, Delivered by Birdie: A Cozy New Christmas Tradition

October 12, 2026

There is something magical about a child finding a letter from Santa with their own name on it. This year, Santa has a special helper to deliver it: Birdie, the cheerful little cardinal from Birdie's Christmas Coloring Book.

Meet Santa's little messenger

Birdie lives in a cozy cottage with her friends and loves everything about Christmas. When Santa needed someone to fly his letters to boys and girls, Birdie flapped her wings and volunteered. Every letter comes with a P.S. from Birdie herself.

What's in the letter

Santa's letter is warm, short enough to read aloud, and made personal with three little details you fill in:

  • Your child's name, which appears on the letter and on two ornaments
  • The kind thing they did this year, like "helped feed the dog every morning"
  • Who sent Birdie, such as "Santa asked me" or "Grandma Sue asked me"

Each letter also includes a color-me-in copy, so little ones can color the letter themselves, and a page with two Birdie ornaments to color, cut out and hang on the tree.

Two ways to send it

Print it at home tonight. The printable version is an editable PDF. Type the three details on a computer, print, and it is ready for the breakfast table or the Christmas Eve box.

Get the printable letter

Have it mailed to their mailbox. We print the letter, the coloring copy and the ornaments, tuck them into a festive red envelope, and mail it to your child with free US shipping. It is a lovely surprise from grandparents, too. Order by December 12 to arrive before Christmas.

See exactly what arrives in the mailbox in our post A Real Letter from Santa in Their Mailbox.

Ways to make it magical

  • Leave the letter by their plate on a December morning
  • Tuck it into a Christmas Eve box with cocoa and a new book
  • Read it aloud together, then color Birdie's ornaments and hang them on the tree
  • Keep the colored letter as a keepsake for their memory box
